This is a self-portrait I had taken months ago. One night I just randomly went out into the pitch dark night with a flashlight and took some photographs. I think I was just researching into doing a nocturnal painting and needed some images. This photo was larger but I edited it down to make it smaller so the composition seemed more straightforward and slightly more imposing and intimate. It was amazing the effect I got and I particularly like the different tones of blue that permeate the piece. For some reason it reminds me of PJ Harvey's White Chalk album! It also bears a bit of similarity to the cover of James Blake's eponymous debut album.
